ATV Stolen, Set on Fire in East Haddam

Police Activity Reports Feb. 13-22, 2011

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K, Colchester, report the following incidents:

ROBBERY, ASSAULT, LARCENY,  AND BREACH OF PEACE — On Feb. 13, Danielle Judith Jacobs, 22, of 127 Falls Road, Moodus, was arrested for second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit 2nd-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree larceny and breach of peace.

MINOR TWO-VEHICLE  ACCIDENT — On Feb.13, at approximately 1:14 p.m., Nelson Maurice, 74, of Mallard Cove, East Hampton, was traveling along Johnsonville Road in Moodus when his vehicle, a 2006 Scion XB, crossed the center line of the road, striking a 1996 Mercury Marquis driven by Ryan Spencer, 19, of Route 81, Killingworth. No injuries were reported, and police issued Maurice a verbal warning for failure to drive upon the right.

BURGLARY, LARCENY, VANDALISM  AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF — On Feb. 15, a black and red Kawasaki "Mule" ATV farm vehicle, worth approximately $4,000, was reported stolen from the barn at Grandpa Hill Farm on East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike. The vehicle had been driven out, abandoned on the ice on the upper Moodus Reservoir and set on fire, and police are investigating.

LARCENY OF GASOLINE — On Feb. 15, a resident from W.F. Palmer Road, Moodus, reported that gasoline was siphoned from his or her vehicle sometime during the overnight hours.

FIRST-DEGREE LARCENY — On Feb. 17, Alena Priest, 19, of 5 Long Pasture Lane, East Haddam, was arrested for first-degree larceny. Police have not released any details about the arrest at the time of this report.

THREATENING AND HARRASSMENT — On Feb. 17, Robert Paternoster, 69, of 35 Spring Road, Wolcott, was arrested for threatening and two counts of second-degree harrassment.

MOTOR VEHICLE VS. TREE— On Feb. 19, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Michael Sturges, 63, of Chestnut Hill Road, East Hampton, was traveling southbound on Route 149 in the area of Creek Row, when he struck a large portion of a tree that had fallen into the roadway with his 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Neither Sturges nor his passengers reported any injuries, and the vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

MOTOR VEHICLE VS. ROAD SIGNS — On Feb. 20, at approximately 9:52 a.m., Doris Coster, 90, of River Road, East Haddam, was traveling northbound on Ray Hill Road in East Haddam in a 2001 Ford Taurus, when she struck a stop sign as well as another street sign. No injuries were reported.

BREACH OF PEACE — On Feb. 21, at approximately 10:02 p.m., David Seaquist, 18, of 103 North Moodus Road, Moodus, was involved in a physical altercation with a 17-year-old juvenile at the 7-11 convenience store on Falls Road in Moodus.  Both individuals were arrested for breach of peace.

MOTOR VEHICLE VS. SNOWBANK — On Feb. 21, at approximately 6:18 a.m., Guy Mathieu, 55, of South Howard St., Hemet, Calif., was traveling along Route 149 in the area of Great Hillwood Road, when he lost control of his 2004 Honda Accord, striking a snowbank on the right shoulder of the road.

ONE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT — On Feb. 22, at approximately 3:57 p.m., Shannon Gates, 39, of Grove St, Moodus, lost control of her 2003 Ford LX and struck an embankment. No injuries were reported.

VANDALISM AND CRIMINAL MISCHIEF — On Feb. 22, an East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike, East Haddam resident, reported that her vehicle had been "keyed" and the tires had been tampered with, while it was left parked overnight at a local business on Falls Road in Moodus. Police are investigating.
