Arrest Warrants Served for Lake Hayward Burglaries; Transfer Station Targeted by Thieves

East Haddam area police activity reports.

 

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:


TRANSFER STATION BURGLARY AND LARCENY - On Feb. 5th at 9:05 a.m., East Haddam Police received a report that the East Haddam Transfer Station had been entered after hours and unspecified items had been removed. Anyone who may have information that could help police with this investigation is asked to contact Corporal Karl Karabeinikoff of the East Haddam Police Department at 860-873-1226 or by e-mail at police@easthaddam.org.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs.TREE - On Feb. 5th at approximately 4:42 p.m., Mary Libby, 48, of Fort Street, Groton was traveling along Hopyard Road in East Haddam, driving a 2010 Honda Civic. Libby lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. She was transported by East Haddam Ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries, according to police. The vehicle sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT - On Feb. 6th at approximately 6:22 p.m., Laureen Sheehan, 58, of Hem Street, East Haddam (operating a 2010 Subaru Forester) and Nicole Messier, 21, of Maple Street, East Hampton (operating a 1996 Chevy Cavalier) were involved in a two-car accident on Route 16 in the area of Gillette's Lane in Colchester. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles sustained only minor damage and were able to be driven from the scene.

LAKE HAYWARD BURGLARIES / ARREST WARRANTS SERVED - After a lengthy and involved investigation into a long list of homes that were burglarized in the Lake Hayward section of East Haddam, East Haddam Resident Trooper Jeff Rhoades is reporting additional arrests related to these incidents.

On Feb 8th, William Doyle, 24, of 126 Longwood Drive, East Haddam was arrested, pursuant to (5) warrants and is facing charges of 1st and 2nd-degree criminal mischief, 3rd-degree burglary and 6th-degree larceny. Stephen Dente, 22, of 12 Alexander Road, East Haddam was arrested, also pursuant to (5) warrants, and charged with 2nd-degree criminal mischief, 3rd-degree burglary and 6th-degree larceny.

Several area homes had been broken into and copper piping was stolen. According to Rhoades, a total of thirteen properties were affected and involved in this investigation over the past few months.

Both men are being held at the Hartford Correctional Center in lieu of cash bonds totaling $125,000 each or $25,000 per warrant. The two individuals were initially presented at court on Feb. 8th. Dente is scheduled to appear next at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown on 2/29/12. Doyle has been given a future court date of 3/15/12.

INTERFERING WITH POLICE AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT - On Feb. 9th at 1:01 a.m., State Police responded to a Falls Road, Moodus residence for a reported disturbance. Peter Linnane, 41, of 135 Falls Road, Moodus was arrested and charged with the above violations. Linnane was held in lieu of a $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear later that morning at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.
