Accident on Brainard Hill Road Still Under Investigation

A 2004 white Hyundai Tiburon struck a utility poll at the intersection of Brainard Hill and Coyote Trail in Higganum.

Information provided by TFC Enrico Milardo of the Haddam Resident Troopers' Office.

On Wednesday, March 27, a 2004 white Hyundai Tiburon driven by Aaron Rugar, 18, of Cromwell struck a utility poll at the intersection of Brainard Hill and Coyote Trail in Higganum.

The vehicle, according to police, was heading southbound on Brainard Hill when Rugar lost control and struck a utility pole off of the northbound shoulder near Coyote Trail.

There were three other passengers (17 year-olds from Middletown) in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance responded to the scene of the accident. Rugar was transported to Middlesex Hospital for a head laceration and later released.

A male passenger was also transported Middlesex Hospital with a head injury, but was later flown by Life Star to Hartford Children's Medical Center, where he is currently under their care.

The vehicle sustained extensive left driver side damage after impact with the utility pole and the damaged pole had to be replaced by CL&P.

Speed may be a factor in this incident, police say. The incident is still under investigation.
