22-Year-Old Higganum Resident Faces DUI Charges

The following police report was obtained directly from the Middletown and Connecticut State Police public information officers and reflects charges filed, not convictions.

The following information was provided by the Middletown Police Blotter from daily arraignments. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On July 3 at 12:50 AM, an off-duty South Windsor police officer called 911 after observing a Nissan Altima driving erratically at Bow Lane and Saybrook Road, according to the police report.

The operator was Joshua J. Meehl, 22, of Nedobity Road, Higganum.

The officer, who said he was following the car through Portland, said Meehl was speeding and hit a guardrail on the Arrigoni Bridge. Meehl's eyes were glossy and red, police say, and admitted to consuming a few beers. He was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol.

According to public records, Meehl is set to appear in court on July 11.
