Killingworth Resident, On April 22 2013, the Killingworth Board of Finance submitted a final preliminary budget for 2014 with a zero percent increase. In these times of rising costs and tight budgets, the Board of Finance managed to hold the spending to 2013 levels. This was possible due to the hard work of the Board of Finance working as a team with the Board of Selectman and the Board of Education. Countless volunteer hours are spent working on these budgets year after year. The 2014 budget proposal is met with opposition. A small group in town, headed by George Hedrick and supported by John Samperi and others, has secured enough signatures (200) to force this budget to go to referendum. While opposition to a town proposed budget is common, opposition to a zero increase is not common. This budget referendum will cost town taxpayers over $4000.00. I am a Killingworth taxpayer and I stand by our elected board members. I support a zero percent increase budget. I am continually humbled with the generosity of so many volunteers who work so hard to make our small town the wonderful place it is. I stand with those who serve our town.
