On that date, newly introduced legislation to prohibit the disposal and treatment of hazardous fracking waste within our state borders will be heard by the CGA Joint Committee on the Environment.  This is a rare opportunity for members of the public to speak up and tell your legislators not to allow Connecticut to become a toxic dump for Hazardous Fracking Waste!

Background...

Fracking produces millions of gallons of hazardous, potentially radioactive wastewater laced with toxic  chemicals.  Unfortunately, states without industrial oil and gas development such as Connecticut can still be negatively impacted by the disposal of waste products from fracking.  Fracking waste from out-of-state drilling operations can include:

· Hazardous chemicals, including over 2 dozen known carcinogens;

· Radioactive materials that are linked to bone, liver and breast cancer;  and...

· Brine that is five times saltier than seawater, which can corrode sewage infrastructure and threatens the health of local freshwater ecosystems.

Take Action to Ban Fracking Waste Disposal in CT!

The CGA Environment Committee will be hearing two proposals to restrict hazardous fracking waste from coming into our state this Friday, February 28.  All members of the public are invited to provide testimony in favor of these important environmental & public health protections.

Come lend your voice to one of the most important environmental issues of 2014!
