Yes, when I saw the report troll across the bottom of the television screen, I thought "Essex" was refering to the waterside town of Essex, CT. Then, I thought maybe they meant a and not an actual lion.
After a quick Internet search, I discovered the lion (yes, a lion and not a mountain lion) was actually spotted in the county of Essex in the United Kingdom, not in our nearby Connecticut town. That might explain why the British police are investigating the Sunday night lion sighting!
According to an ABC report, "Armed officers spent the night scouring the area, while a police helicopter with heat-seeking equipment was deployed to help find the animal, alongside zoo workers armed with tranquilliser guns."
The report also states that a resident in the area "heard what he believed to be a roar whilst out walking his dog on Sunday night."
I think we may be safe from that particular lion sighting, unless he "swims across the pond."
