Haddam Land Swap Just Exterminated

I am overjoyed to report that a few minutes ago, the infamous 2011 Haddam Land Swap finally expired. In the closing hours of the 2013 legislative session, both the House and Senate voted to pass the annual Conveyance Bill. Included in the bill was the innocuous phrase “Sec. 10. Section 8 of special act 11-16 is repealed. “ And so the swap, passed in a process which was not at all consistent with the public trust, was rescinded. The 2011 legislation had authorized trading away valuable state owned open space overlooking the Connecticut River in Haddam without any appropriate process for determining whether it was in the public interest to do so. Credit for this victory tonite goes to state Rep. Phil Miller, who worked hard to ensure the repeal was part of the bill. Thanks, Phil. You have our thanks and our gratitude.
