Rotary Club Honors 'Students of the Month'

Vivian Tran of the Morgan School and Cade Webster of Haddam-Killingworth High School were nominated as the local rotary's most recent 'Student of the Month" from each school.

The Morgan School teacher Mike Graham nominated VIVIAN TRAN and HKHS guidance counselor Peter Etlinger nominated CADE WEBSTER as Clinton Rotary’s February Student of the Month.

Starting off the monthly student co-celebration, Marcia Bird, Clinton Rotary Student of the Month - Morgan School Co-Chair, explained that The Morgan School SOM nominating teacher Mike Graham was very sorry that he could not attend the award dinner but had emailed his "presentation” for her to read for him.

So, Marcia began "his” presentation by saying "Vivian, a Junior, is a delight and certainly deserves the recognition as a leader who does so by example.

She is a member of the State Championship Volleyball Team, a member of the Lacrosse team, The Mock Trail team and a member of the Art Club. Currently she is a leader on The Close-Up team planning to travel to Washington DC to represent the Morgan School and the Clinton Community.”

Then Annie Stirna, Clinton Rotary Student of the Month - HKHS Co-Chair continued with introducing teacher Sean Gallagher, who was there representing HKHS nominating teacher Peter Etlinger, also unable to attend the award dinner. Sean said that he had had many wonderful experiences with Cade in his Engineering class, in the past.

Cade, also a Junior in High School, has gone over his 30 required hours of community service and has amassed just over 500 hours. Cade is an accomplished fencer and horseback rider - he is an adaptation of a modern renaissance man.

Cade is an active member of the Boy Scouts, currently holding the distinction of Life Scout and is working toward Eagle Scout status. Cade is a three season athlete, participating in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track. He is also a certified Emergency Medical Responder for the Killingworth Ambulance Assoc. and is a volunteer for the Killingworth Fire Dept. Jr. Division.

VIVIAN and her parents: Thanh Tran and Yumiko Douglass and CADE and his parents: John and Bethany Webster along with Sean Gallagher were invited to the Clinton Country Club, where the Clinton Rotary Club meets every Thursday at 6:30pm for a dinner meeting but only the last Thursday of the month, the Student of the Month Awards are given.

Both students were presented with a framed Student of the Month Award Certificate and a Rotary Pen.

VIVIAN and CADE’s names are engraved on a plaque that hangs in each school’s Guidance office.

CONGRATULATIONS TO STUDENTS VIVIAN TRAN AND CADE WEBSTER FOR EARNING THE CLINTON ROTARY FEBRUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH DISTINCTION.
