A Killingworth Conservative Point of View

And so, here we are again, continuing the public discussion of the Town Hall Project, after more than 2 years.
The project was a $3.7m proposal initiated by unanimous consent in the Board of Selectmen (BOS), and approved unanimously by the Board of Finance (BOF). The measure was voted down 2-1 in a referendum.  Not satisfied with the stated will of the people, the BOS continued to seek an alternate plan.  As of June, 2013, there sits Plan C at a cost of $3.4m, and will continue to sit for a while, seeing that this is election season.
Meantime these are the consequences of the direction the BOS has taken:
*The townspeople are without an Emergency Operations Center, even though a $500,000 STEAP grant was given to the town before the town hall project was initiated.  The EOC project was tied to the town hall project by the BOS, so it , too, is in limbo.  Had the EOC been completed in a timely manner, townspeople may have benefited during the recent past years' weather emergencies.  Certainly, emergency responders would have.
*Additionally, the town is at risk for losing the grant, because the town leaders have not acted upon its' purpose.  This would be unconscionable.
* There is the  question of how much money was authorized and spent by the BOS for design and other fees related to the town hall project. Was it $200,00?
* The problems with the town modular unit are still not fixed after all this time.  Are we waiting for the old modular unit to fall down?
This is why we need new leadership in town hall.  There is a downside to officials being in office too long, among them: complacency, losing site of what is best for taxpayers especially in this bad economy and era of high taxation at all levels of government, developing strong relationships with, and serving special interests, and politicizing town projects.  These are all good reasons for term limits.  If officials can't get it done in 2 terms, then perhaps it is time to move on and let someone else try.
The current Board of Selectmen failed to get this project done.  The current BOS is still not publicly committed to any one plan; what are they quietly planning for the town's future?
Please vote for the Killingworth Conservative team, Row C, on Nov. 5th. They are honored to serve their community and get things done the right way.
