Obituary: Eleanor S. Becker

Eleanor S. Becker, age 97, passed away at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown on Thursday evening, May 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family following a very brief illness.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Becker.

Eleanor was born in Coventry on March 8, 1917, the daughter of Wasyl and Anna (Dzwonczyk) Shirshac.

She was a long time resident of Killingworth and was very active in the community.

Eleanor served on the Board of Education for a six year period, a member of the Transit District and was a former Registrar of Voters and was Killingworth's Citizen of the Year in 1999.

She was a long time member of the Cappella Cantorum.

Eleanor was a member of the Congregational Church in Killingworth, United Church of Christ where she served as a trustee and was a member of the church choir for over forty years.

She was a proud veteran of World War II having served as a Captain in the United States Airforce.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Robert E. Becker and his wife Gayle, of Killingworth, William J. Becker and his wife Anita, of Virginia, her beloved grandchildren, Megan Becker of Derby, Vermont and her boyfriend, John Marquissee, Robert E. Becker, Jr., and his wife, Alicia of Westbrook, and Patty Ann Becker.

Besides her husband Edward she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Shirshac.
