Ready to Get to Work!

I have been appointed to serve on the legislature's Environment, Public Health and Appropriations committees.

I hope you and yours had a very happy and safe holiday season. This year the tragic events in Newtown weighed heavily on our hearts and, for many, made it difficult to fully enjoy the holidays as we normally might. Keep the memories of those in Newtown and those that responded to the crisis, close to your heart.

As we head in to the New Year, we should all strive to do what we can to make our world a better place. One way you can help locally, is to purchase discounted wrapping paper over the next week--drop it off at MP Impressions in Moodus and we will be donating it toEHYFS Christmas 2013. One friend spoke with a local business who agreed to donate whatever he had left, maybe you would consider asking your favorite business to do the same?

I am thrilled to begin my work "officially" as your new State Representative! I will be sworn in at the State Capitol on January 9th. Over the last few weeks, the freshmen legislators have attended numerous meetings and training sessions to prepare for the challenges ahead. I have been appointed to serve on the legislature's Environment, Public Health and Appropriations committees. There are many important issues that we as a state must tackle in the coming months and I cannot wait to get started.

Of utmost importance to me is keeping an open line of communication with those in the 34th district. Your ideas, issues and concerns are paramount. Please feel free to contact me in district by calling (860) 615-9885 or sending an email to cthouse34elect@comcast.net. Beginning January 9th, after the swearing in, you can reach my legislative office by calling (860) 240-8700. Likewise, I promise to keep you fully updated on my efforts and activities in Hartford. You can always get up to date information on the district by visiting my blog melissaziobron.blogpost.com, where I will be posting official contact info soon. Don't forget I post daily updates to other sites like Twitter and Facebook. Check it out to see what is going on in your neighborhood.

Start the New Year locally at The Annual Resolution Race in Colchester! Begin bright and early January 1st, 2013 at Bacon Academy. I participated last year and had a great time. For more information check here.  Since I came in second to last last year...my resolution is not to come in last this year! Feel free to join me in the back of the line as we walk/jog it together!Lastly, I want to wish you and your family a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year! Thank you again for the trust you have placed with me to represent the 34th district--the most beautiful in the State.

The State of Connecticut has billions in unfunded pension obligations thanks to the money managementRead More ablities of our state treasurers over the years. Only an AFSCME union boss would trust them.

Resident- Let me get this straight you believe that - BOE did not approve this..... no one saw theRead More report card before it went out ? and I am not sure who has since ? Sad! Well it clearly demonstrates the lack of competence and how well the BOE is informed the in the area of our children's education.

Dear save our schools : I have not heard that rumor.... I think where that may have started wasRead More with some people looking at the old middle school and thinking about using it for a vo-ag school, but not at all connected with our school system. I have not heard anything for a while on that whole subject. I have not heard about accreditation issues either... I know about 12 years ago or maybe longer there were issues. My kids are not in the HS. Normally I support our BOE. And it should be noted that the BOE did not approve this... I would tend to bet that if you polled every board member - no one saw this report card system before it went out, and I am not sure who has seen it since. With kids in the middle school now I am keeping an ear open about the HS.

Dear EH Resident, Thank you for a well written and very informative communication. I am a parent ofRead More a recent Hale Ray graduate and have a student currently in the school system. My children are five years apart and it is down right scary to realize how much our school systems quality and rigor has been degraded in recent years. These changes are the direct result of the ill guided Board of Education. Recently I have heard that our high school will soon be becoming a vocational school and will not be accredited . This maybe a rumor but the current path we are on certainly supports the rumor. The loss of accreditation will mean that the diploma our children earn upon graduation will not be accepted by higher education institutions. The mantra of doing less with more is destroying our community. Our children are being robbed of a successful future because of their penny wise pound poor management. We must demand change and accountability from our Board of Education!
