New Programs for Little Ones Start Next Week

East Haddam Early Childhood Council offers new literacy programs for the very young.

It’s never too early to start your child on the path to a lifelong love of reading and language. Next week, the East Haddam Early Childhood Council is launching two new programs to do just that.

Bookworms
This book club for preschoolers meets on Tuesdays from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Bond with your child over a book and learn creative ideas and strategies for promoting strong readers. Please make sure your child understands that there will be no open play time in this group. Registration is recommended.

Little Language Learners
Learn how to help build your child’s language skills through play in eight weekly sessions on Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. These sessions, for children 9 months to 3 years old, are facilitated by a speech-language therapist, but are not language therapy. They provide information on typical language development and activities to boost language skills. The group meets on the following dates: 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/26, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17. Registration is recommended, and siblings are welcome.

Both programs are free. Groups meet at East Haddam Youth and Family Services, 387 Haddam-Moodus Road.
