Thankful Arnold House Museum
14 Hayden Hill, Haddam, 06438
Visit the Arnold Museum historic herb garden or one of the other twelve historic sites around the site from 12 noon to 4 pm. Admission is free.
Arnold House visitors can make a “tussie mussie”- a small circular nosegay using herbs and flowers from the garden.
Also on Sunday our first annual “Real Mud Pie Contest” for children ages 5 to 10. Create a mud pie at home using all natural products from your yard and decorate. Prizes will be awarded. Using the cookbook “Mud Pies and Other Recipes” by Marjorie Window as our guide, a suggested recipe follows:
- 2 cups of fine yard or garden dirt
- ½ cup of rain water
- ¼ cup of driveway sand
- Pinch of grass, pine needles, crushed leaves
- Mix well and place in small “parent approved” baking dish. Bake in sun for 1-6 hours to desired hardness.
- Decorate using only natural items from your yard.
Prizes will be awarded.
