Poll: Are Black Bears on the Rise in Connecticut?

Recently, bears have been reported throughout the state in places like East Haddam, Middletown, Middlefield, Burlington and Windsor.

 

Bear sightings in Connecticut appear to be on the rise and have sparked debate as to whether the bear population in the state is increasing. Some of the recent bear sightings in the state have included:

  • Middletown: A  was reported to police between Exits 21 and 20 in the Middletown area this past Sunday.
  • East Haddam: Last month, a bear was stealing food from resident’s garbage cans.
  • Middlefield: At the end of May, a huge bear was seen making its .
  • Burlington: A Burlington man was in his backyard last month.
  • Windsor: Back in January, a Windsor man was also after he caught it destroying his bird feeder.
