High winds from Hurricane Sandy are expected in Killingworth by midnight Sunday. Be prepared for long-term power outages. If you depend on electric power or your house is vulnerable, be prepared to evacuate to a safe location this afternoon.
A Red Cross emergency shelter will open at the Haddam Killingworth Middle School, 451 Route 81, Killingworth, at 4:00 p.m. on sunday. Cots, water, food, and charging will be available there until further notice.
If you plan to stay at the shelter, please bring bedding, medications, toiletries, snacks, and any special supplies. Pets must be in crates or carriers; and you must bring your pet’s foods, medications, and other supplies.
