East Haddam Resident Appointed VP of Operations at Middlesex Hospital

Gary C. Havican joined Middlesex Hospital as Cancer Center Administrative Director in 2008.

 

East Haddam resident Gary C. Havican has been appointed to the position of Vice President, Operations at Middlesex Hospital. In his new position, Havican will have expanded responsibility for various clinical departments, in addition to the Hospital’s cancer program.

Havican joined Middlesex Hospital as Cancer Center Administrative Director in 2008 and most recently held the position of Director, Cancer Center & Oncology Services. Prior to coming to Middlesex, Havican was an administrative manager for The Carole & Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Between 1997 and 2006, he held various management positions at Hartford Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health and Waterbury Hospital. Havican is also a licensed paramedic.

He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is board-certified in healthcare management. Havican received his bachelor’s degree in history from Western Connecticut State University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of New Haven, and a Green Belt Certificate – Six Sigma (for organizational efficiencies).

Havican is a board member of the Middlesex United Way Corporate Development Committee and the East Haddam-Moodus Little League, and served as chair of the 2010 United Way Campaign at Middlesex Hospital. He also served as chair and vice-chair of the American Heart Association, Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee (New England Region) and is a past president/CEO of the East Haddam Volunteer Ambulance Association, Inc. and an instructor for the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System (HEICS).  He has also received numerous awards for public service.
