Cool Digs: Katharine Hepburn's Former Estate

You can live like a celebrity in Hepburn's former estate for a cool $28 million.

Katharine Hepburn's former estate in Old Saybrook is on the market. Listed at $28 million, the property is situated on nearly 3.5 acres with amazing views of the Long Island Sound.

Abutting the property are an additional 3 plus acres that were designated by Hepburn to remain forever open as conservation. The Lynde Point Land Trust retains ownership and maintains the conservation parcel.

The former Hepburn property is located in a private community of 83 homes with a golf course, boating and swimming facilities. The community is referred to as Fenwick and was established in the 1600's.

The home includes over 8000 square feet of living space with six bedrooms, each
with private bath. Amenities include a beach, dock and an ultimate cook’s kitchen complete with an AGA stove and Sub Zero refrigerator. Other rooms include a den, chart room, potting room, pantry, laundry room and 2-car garage.

Hepburn and her family built the home in 1939. In 2004, the property was sold by Sotheby’s Auction House, along with many of her other properties and possessions. In 2005, the current owner, New York developer Frank Sciame, completely renovated and updated the property. During renovation, the structure was even lifted five feet in order to protect it from the Long Island Sound.
