Police Blotter: Illegal Burning, Resisting Arrest, DUI, Larceny

The East Haddam Police and the Connecticut State Police, Troop K in Colchester report the following incidents:

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT - On April 10, Scott Palmer, 36, of Moodus Road, East Hampton was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree failure to appear. Palmer was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on 4/29/14.

MOTOR-VEHICLE VS. UTILITY POLE - On April 12 at approximately 10:13 p.m., Anna Dubiel, 23, of Cherry Swamp Road, Moodus was traveling northwest on North Moodus Road in Moodus, operating a 2006 Toyota Scion. Police said that Dubiel failed to negotiate a right curve in the road, lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the southbound lane. Dubiel's vehicle then struck a utility pole, splitting it into pieces. The vehicle came to a final rest between a tree and a section of fence. Dubiel reported no injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. A passenger, 28-year-old Kyle Armstrong of Christian Hill Road, Higganum complained of neck and back pain, but also refused medical treatment. Police issued Dubiel an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

BRUSH FIRE: ILLEGAL BURNING - On April 13 at approximately 2:22 p.m., a brush fire was reported to the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department, in the area of 320 Tater Hill Road in East Haddam. On arrival, the investigating firefighters determined that additional units needed to be called in, due to the extent of the blaze. The Town Fire Marshall and East Haddam Police were also requested to report on scene. The fire subsequently consumed approximately 3 acres of land. After further investigation, police said it was determined that the fire was started by a resident attempting to burn household trash in an open field. The property owner, Walter Liska, 86, of Tater Hill Road, East Haddam was issued a misdemeanor summons and complaint for Kindling an Open Fire. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE VS DEER - On April 14 at approximately 9:48 p.m., Andrew Koskovich, 22, of Warner Road, East Haddam was traveling along Fox Cemetery Road in East Haddam, operating a 2006 Suzuki ATV. Police said that Koskovich had attempted to avoid a deer, but subsequently struck the animal and slid off the roadway. Koskovich was transported to the Marlborough Emergency Clinic for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. Police charged Koskovich with Operating an ATV on a Public Roadway.
