This past Saturday, June 21, 2014 residents gathered at the Lake Hayward Pavilion in East Haddam to take part in a special class to learn about the aquatic vegetation that grows in our lakes.
The class was sponsored by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station of New Haven, and instructed by Greg Bugbee, Associate Scientist and Jordan Gibbons, Research Associate for the Invasive Aquatic Plant Program, Department of Environmental Sciences.
Along with a slideshow about the plants, terminology, effects of over-abundance and methods of reduction and control, actual samples of different weeds were available for students to study and identify.
