Here's some GREAT News:
The Moodus Reservoir Preservation Group (MRPG) just received an email from Ed Schaeffer, State Representative Melissa Ziobron's legislative aide, to inform us that the Aquatic Invasive Species grants program was passed by the General Assembly this year and will take effect on July 1st.
It was passed as part of the budget implementer, HB-5597. Below is the link to the bill page.

And here is the report from the Office of Legislative Research concerning Section 248 of the bill which details the program:
§ 248 — AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES
The bill establishes an aquatic invasive species management grant and prevention and education program for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to administer. Under the program, DEEP may:
1. provide grants to municipalities for aquatic invasive species management efforts;
2. educate boaters on ways to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species; and
3. conduct a rapid response to an aquatic invasive species population identified in an inland water body after July 1, 2014.
