East Haddam Farmers' Market Coming in June

The East Haddam Economic Development Commission and East Haddam Agricultural Commission are pleased to announce a new East Haddam Farmers' Market beginning June 20th at the Grange Hall, 488 Town Street (Route 151).

The East Haddam Farmers’ Market will be held each Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. during the summer and from 3-6 p.m. during the fall season through October 31st. The East Haddam Farmers’ Market is a Certified Connecticut farmers' market, WIC and +SNAP/EBT Food Stamp Certified and Senior FMNP Authorized.

The priority of the market is to showcase East Haddam growers, producers and artisans and to bring exposure to the town’s agricultural-related businesses.  The market also strives to offer a variety of products, by supplementing with additional quality vendors from throughout Connecticut. Suppliers of seasonal vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, chocolate, spices, wool yarn, soaps and lotion have already signed-on. Agricultural demonstrations, artists and information tables are also planned.

Vendor space is still available in some categories or names may be submitted to a waitlist. Booth space is available for the season ($100), half season ($60) or weekly ($10) and vendors must have business liability insurance. For more information and contract consideration, contact Jeff Savitsky, Market Manager, at 860-786-8866 or easthaddamfarmersmarket@gmail.com

The new Wednesday Market replaces the Saturday Farmers’ Market held for many years at the . Rathbun and town officials are pleased, in fact, they helped bring about the change. Looking to expand the Rathbun Market, several of those committee members joined the Agricultural Commission to discuss options. Several EDC members also expressed interest in helping to identify an expanded market location and outline what was needed to expand.

At the same time, East Haddam resident and Lake Hayward Farm owner, Jeff Savitsky, approached the new Farmers’ Market Committee volunteering his assistance as Market Manager. Having established the Colchester Farmers’ Market three years ago, Savitsky brought the experience and know-how to move the expansion concept to reality. The Farmers’ Market group has worked hard to get things going for this season and hopes that residents and vendors will enjoy the new day and format.
