Tony Memmel to Perform at the Higganum Farmer's Market

In addition to a host of fresh goodies, enjoy folk-rock music this Friday at the market.

If you’ve got a favorite comfy old recliner, bucket seat from your 1969 Cougar, camp stool, blanket or ottoman– bring it with you this coming Friday because we’ve got a special treat on the Green in Higganum and you’ll want to stay a while.

I’ve been listening to some new music from Tony Memmel for a few weeks; singing pieces of his songs and “wearing out the groves” in my computer’s hard drive. He sings like he’s onto something pretty good. His songs are cool, clever and sometimes edgy, and they get in your head. He’s got a gift to give everyone but, if his music isn’t enough, then you can simply be inspired by how he does it. He plays guitar and sings; makes music in the best folk-rock music tradition --- adds some harmonica and plays other instruments as well, yet---he does all this with only one hand. He was born that way but hasn’t let that define who he is.

Memmel started out playing solo, but recently added friend and drummer Brian Farvour, along with his wife Lesleigh on vocals and piano into the mix. While on tour in 2010 he won first place in an open mic competition in Boston’s “Lizard Lounge,” and his newest album “Here We Go,” is getting terrific reviews, with three albums out to date. In addition, he’s currently in the running for “Acoustic Musician of the Year” in a local Milwaukee newspaper. In the best tradition of songwriting---his lyrics tell a story, but the music is perfectly matched to his vocals and guitar playing style. From his home base in Wisconsin, Memmel takes the show on the road through Milwaukee, Chicago, Philadelphia and onto the northeast to New York and Boston. We’re going to put Higganum on his list, too.

Find him here at:  http://tonymemmel.com/wp/ and on Facebook, too. His CDs and t-shirts will also be available for sale at the market.

Kids off to college and missing them? Why not send an “I’m thinking of you—your room stays so clean now!” care package with some of the market’s freshly baked breads and other sweet treats, plus honey fresh from the bees. Nothing says “home” quite like a loaf or two from The First Congregational Church of Haddam’s breads or delectable pastries from Meriano’s Bakery! Add a jar of honey from Sugar Maple Farms and that’s a great way to send a hello with a hug - from home. Most breads and pastries freeze well too so you can savor them fresh now or enjoy later when those whistling winds will blow… Fall favorites; apples and cider – coming your way too!
