Multi-Artist Exhibit Opens in Old Bank Building Featuring Pierre Sylvain

In the midst of a gray winter cold, one painter whose colorful works bring to mind the warmth of Haiti is crossing the river with a dozen artists for a gallery show in an old bank building.

An eclectic artists marketplace one Friday a month fills the old East Hampton Bank and Trust Co. at 66 Main Street and this weekend marks the All Arts Night reception with featured artist Pierre Sylvain.

The Middletown-based artist's painted 55-gallon oil drums turned recycling receptacles line Main Street and his exhibits have graced Wesleyan University's Zilka Gallery and the former R.W. Camp building along with Common Councilman and photographer David Bauer.

At 66 Main Marketplace in the East Hampton village center, local artists have gathered their paintings, photographs, watercolors, prints and more for the show's reception from 6-8:30 p.m. with refreshments and live music. Owner Todd Schrager hosts more than 25 different vendors selling handmade items and gifts with art openings every first Friday of the month.

The marketplace and art gallery was also the subject of a Better Connecticut story segment this week on WFSB Channel 3 with Scot Haney.

Sylvain's work will be joined by that of Jean Watson, Whitney Fielding of East Hampton, Paul Hoffman of East Hampton, Bauer, Amy Amelia White of Haddam, Kearen Enright of Portland, Joyce Senesac of Middletown and many others.

"They are trying to create an art community in East Hampton," Sylvain says of 66 Main Marketplace's mission.
