Higganum Muckets Invade Killingworth Library

The two lucky Mucket-artist winners – in a first-place tie – were Mikayla Nuhn of Killingworth and Enzo D'Amico of Haddam.

Haddam-Killingworth Middle School art students were given a special challenge this spring: to create a depiction of the legendary Higganum Mucket. The Mucket is the Loch Ness Monster of Haddam, a strange and elusive fish with fierce eating habits, rumored to be found only in the Candlewood Hill Brook that runs through Higganum center. This creative art contest was developed by the Committee for the Haddam 350th Anniversary celebration.

A selection of the Mucket artworks were displayed at the Killingworth Library during the month of June, and patrons voted for their favorite “people’s choice”. The two lucky Mucket-artist winners – in a first-place tie – were Mikayla Nuhn of Killingworth and Enzo D’Amico of Haddam. They each received a prize of an official Haddam Mucket t-shirt. Congratulations to both winners!

You can follow Haddam’s anniversary celebration on their website, haddam350.com. Mucket t-shirts will be available for sale at the various events. And if you want to know more about Muckets, copies of the legend written by Haddam author Arthur Wiknik Jr. are available at the Killingworth and Brainerd libraries.
