Artists: Nathan Hale Schoolhouse Needs Your Help
A schoolhouse named after Connecticut's state hero is seeking artist submissions for its new postcards.
Coventry-born Nathan Hale is Connecticut's state hero. A Continental Army captain, he volunteered to spy on the British during the American Revolution and was hanged without a trial, by the British.
He was 21 when he was hanged, according to the History Channel website. Hale is credited with saying "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country," when asked if he had any last words.
The Nathan Hale Schoolhouse in East Haddam, Conn., is seeking designs for two new postcards for the school.
"Submit a drawing, painting, photo to info@connecticutsar.org by July 31, then we will post all the submissions to the Facebook page and then the two with the most likes by August 8th will be the new postcard designs," the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse noted on its Facebook page.
Name, address and title of your artwork must be included in the email.
About the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse
The schoolhouse is more than 200 years old and was a school from 1750 to 1799. Later, it was a private residence and is now maintained by Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
