Spring Has Sprung at Staehly's

Staehly's Farm in East Haddam is now open for the season.

Traveling  route 82  somewhere between the turn off for Gillette Castle and downtown, a flag flaps in the wind, proudly proclaiming that the farm is officially open for the season.

Staehly's Farm started out as a Christmas Tree farm in 1985 and has expanded to include greenhouses and a farmer's market storefront. In addition to trees, there are plenty of annuals, perennials, vegetables and seasonal gourmet goodies like jams, honey sticks and pickles.

Owner Gail Staehly, who owns the farm along with her husband Chris, is excited about the upcoming season. I figured we had enough white this winter to last us a while, she says, so I backed off on stocking a lot of white flowers.
