Higganum Village Farmers Market is Full of October Fun

Emily Brooks, chef and author, visits the Higganum Village Farmers' Market on October 21st.

Plan to visit the Higganum Green on this Friday, October 21st, for the re-scheduled visit by Emily Brooks, chef and author, as she talks about her new book titled, Connecticut FARMER & FEAST--Harvesting Local Bounty, (Globe Pequot Press, 2011). Founder of the “Edibles Advocate Alliance,” she’s the “revolutionary new face of the local food and sustainable agriculture movements.” Part of Brooks’ mission is to help “social entrepreneurs who support local agriculture, sustainable farming, and sustainable food systems,” as she passionately advocates changing the way we all think about what it means to be local---from farming to society’s mindset. A big mouthful;and we of the HVFM support these same goals!

Come to learn more about her thought provoking new cook book that will delight and entice readers to think about Connecticut's agricultural heritage farms, and their dedicated farmers and producers who work ceaselessly to bring us LOCAL food. Her book introduces readers to more than 40 of Connecticut's devoted farmers and food producers who proudly make Connecticut's "locally grown" produce, meats, cheeses, and other food items featured in farm stands, farmers’ markets, and top restaurants throughout the Nutmeg State. She’ll have books on hand to purchase and sign them for you too.

Speaking of October treats, on Friday we also welcome back, Singer, Songwriter, and Composer – Gale Storm from Farmington. Her beautiful voice, at times ethereal and haunting – comes from deep within and what she calls her “timeless love journeys, through faith, family and romance.” A multi-talented performer, Storm plays autoharp, piano, and guitar and weaves stories throughout her songs-with gospel, blues, contemporary folk music, Celtic and World synergy influences. As she played at the market in the summer and we became mesmerized by performance and calming presence ---we believe there may be something in her name; the rain held until she finished playing that day!
