The mix of heavy rains, strong winds and a full moon is expected to deliver widespread minor flooding throughout the shoreline region late Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that covers all of New Haven County and Middlesex counties.

Some 2 to 4 inches of heavy rain is expected overnight, with locally higher amounts possible in some areas during the storm, the NWS reports.

This will "likely cause flooding of urban, low-lying and poor drainage areas, and flooding of small streams and rivers," the meteorologists warn in their report.

Coastal Flood Advisory

In addition, a coastal flood advisory has also been issued for southern New Haven County.

Tidal departures are expected to be about 1 to 2 feet above normal.

The overnight high tide at New Haven's harbor is expected to peak at 12:18 a.m.
