All Things Fall

Lots to do in Connecticut in this season.

Take your pick and there’s bound to be one aspect of autumn that gets you excited, festivals, fairs, apple picking, pumpkin fests - this is New England after all!

Temperatures have dipped into the 50s, sweaters are being pulled from storage bins and kids and adults are getting amped for apple picking, Halloween and, not too far off, the Thanksgiving feast. That’s right. Fall is here.

Sure, it’s not all fun and games after the colorful leaves fall on your lawn and you have to rake them up. (But, even that can be fun for the kids who get to jump in the piles!)

Fall is a time to celebrate nature’s beauty and its bounty. Like the farmer’s harvest, activities abound at this time of year. Here’s a sampling of a few nearby ones coming up:

Unless you've been living under a rock, you know about the Durham Fair that's going on right now and through tomorrow.

In East Hampton, the annual pumpkin extravaganza known as Pumpkintown has come once again to Paul's and Sandy's Too on Route 66. This celebration of all things pumpkins includes a makeshift small town with characters made from, you guessed it, pumpkins, as well as food and entertainment for the kids.

At Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield you can pick your own pumpkins and apples, as well as frolick in a corn maze or take a hay ride.

There's also a host of apple orchards in Glastonbury where the harvest has just begun, including Rose's, Donderos and Belltown orchards.
