Veterans' Day at NHRMS - East Haddam/Moodus

At one point in time, Veterans’ Day meant a day off from school, but that is no longer the case.   This year, the students and staff at Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School celebrated Veterans’ Day with 50 Veterans and active service men and women.  The celebration started with members of the Connecticut Patriot Guard delivering the American Flag by motorcycle to front of the Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School as the entire student body watched.  The members of the Patriot Guard were also given the honor of raising the flag followed by members of the middle school chorus singing the National Anthem.

Each grade level spent the majority of the school day learning about Veterans’ Day and engaging in very powerful dialogue from the honored guests. Grade level activities included question and answer sessions, slide shows, reader’s theater, and numerous other activities.  The special tribute concluded with the poetry, musical performances, and the lowering of the flag.
