Haddam Fire: Men Remain In Hospital Following Route 82 Crash

The following is from the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department shared on the firefighters' Facebook page

Two men remain in the hospital following a fiery head-on collision early Monday morning.

The accident happened shortly before 3 a.m. on the Route 82 Connector at Route 9 Exit 7. Police reports indicate that a Ford Ranger traveling eastbound crossed the center line and collided with an Isuzu box truck heading westbound.

The Haddam Volunteer Fire Company and Chester Hose Company responded. The driver of the pickup self-extricated. He was airlifted via Life Star to Bridgeport Hospital. The driver of the box truck also managed to escape on his own. He was treated on scene and transported via Haddam Ambulance to Hartford Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Haddam and Chester firefighters extinguished the fires and provided medical support, in addition to setting up the Landing Zone and searching the woods for other potential victims.

Route 82 was closed for approximately seven hours while the Connecticut State Police conducted their investigation and the vehicles were removed.
