Portal Back In Time: Early 1900's Postcards

Looking through old postcards my great grandparents sent to one another, these little pieces of paper hold so much history and allowed me a small glimpse into the past. Now I share them with you.

Looking through old postcards my great grandparents sent to one another, I came across many containing pictures of Connecticut towns dating from 1900 to 1911. These little pieces of paper still holding their one cent stamp hold so much history and allowed me a small glimpse into the past. Seeing how these towns used to look, towns I see all the time, was fascinating. Since the early 1900's new buildings have been built, more people have moved in, and what is seen in these postcards is not exactly what we see today. I wanted to share these little portals into the past because I know, as fellow Connecticut residents, you may find meaning in them as well.

Do you live in any of these towns or have memories from them? If so feel free to reminisce about days past and share your stories below. We all have a history and these postcards may open up a past we've forgotten.

I enjoy looking at old postcards and the group shown here is a very nice variety of Connecticut locations. If not labeled, I could still identify Hartford, CT which is my place of birth. Another nice postcard category is those created by artists. Many topics were covered such as holidays, nature, major world events, politics, etc. And, the subjects were depicted in a wide expressive range from comic to dramatic.

I too enjoy the old postcards and I have quite a few of 'Haddam' East Haddam' and some surrounding towns. I don't live in East Haddam yet...hope to move there sometime this year (currently building)
It's nice of you to share...maybe others will. I'll try when I can figure out how to!! I'm not that computer savvy ...but my grandson will help. Thanks again for the sharing

When the appropriate time arrives, historical societies in those towns would love to have these card as donations. They are very beautiful and should be preserved as you have done.
Keep them out of sunlight and hopefully in preservation envelopes.

We are making sure to take good care of these postcards. They have been passed down in the my family and are very special. Most of them were sent from my great grandfather to my great grandmother and a few were from their friends. As for donating; I think we plan on keeping them in the family for a very long time.

Amanda, thanks so much for sharing your collection. As wonderful as the images on on the postcards are, I'm hoping that they also gave you a glimpse into the life and love of your great grandparents.

They did! Only a few had messages actually written on them but I was able to learn a little about my great grandparents. Wish I had been able to meet them!

May I ask why you opened these up to anyone to take/download without asking the one who owns them? Next time please ask beforehand. I'd appreciate it.
